“The Premiere 8K receiving the industry’s first 8KA certification is a major milestone as it officially demonstrates the new potential of projector technology.” said Taeyoung Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are committed to expanding the 8K ecosystem by continuously and extensively integrating new technologies.”

According to the 8K Association, projectors seeking 8K certification are judged based on the following criteria:

  • Full 8K resolution, which reproduces faithfully all of the details found in the original image.
  • Brightness and Contrast, which ensures that details remain vivid, even in the brightest highlights and deepest shadows.
  • Wide Color Gamut, that defines the range, accuracy and consistency of the colors a projector can reproduce.
  • High-Dynamic Range (HDR), which complements these attributes by enhancing the projector’s brightness and contrast even further.
  • 8K Upscaling, which leverages advanced algorithms to convert lower resolution content to near 8K quality.
  • Immersive Audio, that utilizes the latest multi-channel & Next Generation Audio (NGA) formats to create sound fields that complement 8K video.Samsung claims its upcoming projector “excelled across all these categories.” Pricing and a release date for The Premiere 8K is yet to be announced.
