With the first foldable iPhone rumored to launch in September, reports have surfaced that Samsung has begun manufacturing foldable OLED displays for the device. Korean publication TheElec named Samsung as the display’s producer earlier this year, and has now reported that the company has begun production.
TheElec claims that Samsung’s plant in Vietnam has achieved a manufacturing yield of over 80%, and is aiming to produce over 3 million of the panels by the end of the year. Samsung has been chosen as the exclusive provider of the phone’s display, with a three year manufacturing agreement with Apple in place.
The panels chosen for the phone are said to be Samsung’s M16 stack, which reportedly delivers greater power efficiency and a longer lifespan, along with higher brightness and better color reproduction. The stack is also expected to use Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology, which provides a color filter directly on top of the encapsulation layer, negating the need for a polarizer.
