Project Moohan’s official name has been revealed as Galaxy XR: Samsung’s foray into mixed reality headsets. Galaxy XR marks the first product built on the new Android XR platform, which was co-developed by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm. Android XR is scalable, and Samsung’s long-term vision for the platform sees it becoming an ecosystem for smart glasses, headsets, and other form-factors. Additionally, Samsung says that all apps built on the Android platform work on Galaxy XR without any extra steps required.
Galaxy XR uses an array of sensors and cameras to track users’ head, eye, and hand movement, allowing for an immersive control system. Samsung says it is committed to leveraging Galaxy XR for enterprise needs as well, and is starting off with a partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries to utilize Galaxy XR for virtual shipbuilding training for work productivity and safety.
Galaxy XR is available now for $1,799.
