The Sphere could be bringing its groundbreaking audio outside

MSG Entertainment CEO teases audio coming to the Exosphere, as well as a new upcoming show at the venue

Following Sphere Entertainment’s recent acquisition of HOLOPLOT, the standout immersive audio company that designed and implemented the interior sound system of the Sphere, it looks like the Sphere is not yet done evolving its audio capabilities. Executive Chairman and CEO of Madison Square Garden Entertainment Jim Dolan revealed that there are several new plans in the works for the Sphere, including adding audio to the venue’s Exosphere, in an earnings call earlier this month.

“We think there’s more to do with the Exosphere,” commented Dolan. “We think that we’ll be able this year, probably this summer, to be able to add an audio component that goes along with the Exosphere which will make, of course, the medium even more attractive.”

The Exosphere is the company’s official name for the venue’s exterior that features 580,000 square feet of LEDs. During the call, Dolan reiterated the kind of influence that Exosphere has had on the city of Las Vegas, and pondered that the addition of audio could open up more advertising partnerships for the venue.

“One of the interesting things that happened when we opened up the Exosphere, when we turned it on, is that the casino hotels, right, have a surcharge if you get a room that faces the Sphere. So that doesn’t happen with the billboard, and it gives you sort of an idea of the power that the Exosphere can have,” said Dolan.

The Exosphere’s tremendous advertising capabilities have been leveraged for nearly all events and partnerships the venue has been involved in, with the upcoming live NHL Draft being the most current example.

Beyond the Exosphere, Dolan teased an upcoming show is in the works for the Sphere that will “blow your socks off,” though he clarified that the show won’t be revealed until this summer. What he could say about the show, however, is that it will have “a significant AI component.” “You will see something you’ve never seen before when we debut the second attraction.”
