Milab, known for its array of professional microphones including its Pearl Microphones brand, filed for bankruptcy on August 11. The company’s long history began in 1939 in Stockholm, and became formally incorporated in 1941. The company rebranded in 1980 from Pearl Mikrofonlaboratorium (PML) to Milab, and continued to offer its line of live, studio, and broadcast mirophones.
Ackordcentralen Syd AB has been appointed as bankruptcy trustee by Sweden’s Helsingborg District Court. In a post on Milab’s Facebook, marketing manager Mattais Strömberg commented on the situation in an effort to clarify support options for customers:
“The bankruptcy trustee has already taken control of the company, so nothing will be sold from the factory unless there is a future auction or if someone buys the whole estate,” wrote Strömberg. “However, some distributors may have a bit of stock. Reach out to our (former) US distributor, Independent Audio. I believe they have some mics on hand. But please note that they will be sold without warranty.”
