In a bid to compete with the likes of LG and Samsung, TCL will be investing in a large-scale 8.6G OLED plant. Last year, the Chinese company announced a breakthrough in inkjet-printed OLED panels, which it claims eliminates waste and therefore lowers production costs compared to WOLED or QD-OLED panels. The company announced last year that they would be utilizing inkjet printing methods to produce RGB OLED panels in order to further improve the energy efficiency of its products. While the initial production run at the beginning of this year was in a limited capacity, TCL CSOT stated that it would be ramping up production through 2025 and beyond. Now, UBI Research reports that TCL will be constructing a production plant to expand its production capabilities.
“Chinese display company TCL CSOT (China Star Optoelectronics Technology) is planning to construct a new 8.6-generation (2290x2620mm) OLED line at the T8 site near its existing T9 OLED line in Guangzhou,” states UBI Research. “This investment will be based on inkjet printing technology, with a total investment scale of approximately RMB 20 billion.”
UBI Research commented that an official announcement from TCL is expected within the coming weeks.
