Test shows OLED burn-in slows after six months

A near imperceptible decrease in brightness and minimal worsening of artifacts occurred between the six and 21 month mark

YouTube channel Monitors Unboxed has continued its rigorous OLED burn-in tests, just recently reaching the 21-month mark. For nearly two years, the channel has subjected the MSI MPG 321URX OLED monitor to continuous use of displaying mostly static content. The display has been used for 60 hours a week at 200 nits of brightness. In the latest update, Monitors Unboxed has revealed some interesting bits of information.

The most obvious change in this most recent video is the loss of the monitor’s brightness. While it is technically only a loss of 2%, it is the only dip in brightness that has been recorded thus far in the long-term test. Perhaps most interesting, however, is the channel’s observation that OLED burn-in artifacts chiefly appeared in the period between three and six months of testing. After six months, any advancements in burn-in have been negligible. Keep in mind that this is an extreme stress test, with the timeline for defects being accelerated due to the monitor’s heavy use. For a complete list of all test updates, be sure to watch Monitors Unboxed’s video above.
