WATCH: CEOs are having AI clones deliver their earnings reports

The CEOs of Zoom and Klarna are having AI avatars stand in for them in calls

It’s been just under a year since Zoom CEO Eric Yuan pitched the idea using AI to create a “digital twin” to stand in for people during videoconferencing calls and company meetings. It turns out that a couple of tech CEOs, including Yuan, are doing just that. Last week, Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski let an AI clone stand in for him during a video discussing the company’s Q1 results. The video, first reported on by TechCrunch, lasts a bit over a minute, and features a description noting its use of an AI stand-in.

For Zoom’s Q1 video call, Yuan utilized the same approach.

“Today, I’m using our custom avatars for Zoom Clips with AI Companion to share my part of the earnings report,” said Yuan, or rather, his AI avatar. “I’m proud to be among the first-ever CEOs to use an avatar in an earnings call.”

During the Q&A portion of the meeting, the real Yuan commented that he was very happy with his AI clone, and looks forward to using the feature more in the future.
