As part of a joint study between the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich), doctors conducted the world’s first magnetic teleoperated endoscopy on a live pig from nearly 6,000 miles away. Surgeons located in Zurich watched their operation via camera feed, controlling the instruments using a game controller. Researchers are hopeful that this successful procedure will lead to opportunities for diagnostic and surgical care in remote areas, particularly for specialized procedures where local expertise is not available
