Last year marked the debut of Disney’s lifelike Olaf robot, bringing to life a beloved character from the Frozen franchise. The robot is designed to be self-walking, and able to explore on its own. Olaf has since been deployed at select Disney parks, greeting guests while (usually) staying out of trouble.
In a new video from Walt Disney Imagineering, imagineers highlight the intersection of engineering and AI that was able to bring Olaf alive into the physical world. Olaf’s design and unusual proportions presented certain challenges to the team. Watch the video above to see how these hurdles were overcome to make this self-walking snowman a reality.
