The repair experts at iFixit have gotten their hands on Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max to see how easy they are to disassemble and troubleshoot. Notably, the new models come with Apple’s first variable-aperture camera, functioning like a mechanical iris with tiny aperture blade. Other new components include a redesigned logic board, Apple’s new C2 modem, and an under-display Face ID camera.
iFixit gives the new models points for some design decisions, including the return of Apple’s screw-in battery tray, but are cautious about some concerning issues uncovered during the teardown, leading to a repairability score of 7 out of 10.
