More than 20 guests at California’s Knott’s Berry Farm amusement got more than they bargained for on Monday, when a ride malfunction cause them to become suspended horizontally several stories above the concrete below for over two hours. Riders of the Sol Spin ride were eventually evacuated at 4:30 pm, about two and a half hours after the ride halted its movement, with two guests being taken to the hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a park spokesperson.

The cause of the malfunction is still under investigation, and while fire officials were present at the scene on standby, the evacuation was eventually able to be handled by park staff. The Sol Spin spins guests via six independent spinning arms, and takes riders to a height of over six stories. When the ride malfunction, the 22 passengers became trapped in various different positions and orientations. Footage of the incident from KTLA shows that several riders were unsteady on their feet after being released safely on the ground below.
