In a new double teardown, iFixit tests the claim that manufacturing repairable smart glasses with replaceable batteries isn’t practical. This idea has been used to exempt several classes of wearables from international repairability laws, but the self-repair advocates at iFixit aren’t so sure.
In the new teardown, Quark AI Glasses S1 are compared to a competing pair of Chinese AR glasses. Once inside, two very different approaches to internal construction are revealed, with one ending up being surprisingly modular and self-repair friendly. In fact, iFixit declares them some of the most repairable smart glasses featured in one of their teardowns.
In addition to a replaceable battery, micro-OLED projection systems and cameras are given a thorough examination and rated on iFixit’s repairability scale.
