Tesla revealed its long-awaited driverless robotaxis at an event in Hollywood, California last week. These “Cybercabs,” as Tesla calls them, are still prototypes, but CEO Elon Musk said during the event that they are expected to hit roadways sometime “before 2027.” Featuring no pedals, no steering wheel, and only two seats, Musk said that these fully self-driving cars are designed for mass production. It seems that Tesla is aiming to outdo competing companies that have a head start, such as Waymo, by manufacturing at a larger scale.
Survey: Car owners think more screens are “not necessary”
YouTube channel Auto Focus was one of the lucky few to score a ride in a Cybercab prototype, recording the entire ride from the passenger’s point of view. A prominent infotainment screen is front-and-center on the dashboard, allowing passengers to keep track of their trip progress while enjoying TV shows and films. The interior features a minimalist design in keeping in-line with Tesla’s aesthetics, and all controls are handled via the screen.
