Harrowing footage shared on social media shows the moment the 360 Big Pendulum ride at Saudi Arabia’s Green Mountain Park snapped, sending the ride an its passengers hurtling towards the ground. State media reports that 23 people were injured, including four serious injuries. According to the New York Post, witnesses at the scene said at least some of the injuries occurred when the ride’s central pole recoiled after the snap, putting the the wheel carrying the passengers into a free fall.
Prince Saud bin Nahar bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, the governor of Taif, has ordered the park’s closure as an investigation gets underway. The injured were treated on the scene by Saudi Red Crescent Authority, while at least several were taken to a local hospital.
