The Galaxy XR headset released late last year as a joint effort from Samsung and Google to compete with the Apple Vision Pro in the augmented reality space. To help break down some of the engineering behind the device, iFixit has published their teardown video of the Galaxy XR, complete with a direct comparison with Apple’s offering. iFixit praises Samsung for including an easily-swappable external battery in its $1,800 XR headset, along with magnetically-attached face cushions that are easy to remove and maintain.

From there, however, things become less ideal, with most of the Galaxy XR’s components being inaccessible to owners, thanks to the use of adhesive and repair-unfriendly engineering choices. Internal components do feature modular designs that will make technician’s lives easier, but getting to them in the first place can be a tall order. Be sure to watch iFixit’s full teardown above.
