WATCH: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra teardown

Samsung scores points with self-repair advocates for an easily removable battery

Repair experts iFixit have made a bold claim about the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: that it’s Samsung’s highest scoring phone on the repairability scale in 10 years, and is one of the most repair-friendly phones from the company in a long time. The S25 Ultra doesn’t feature any sweeping design overhauls, rather, there is one key component that has been tweaked that has self-repair advocates celebrating.

Building on the S23’s pull-tab battery release, the S25 Ultra has made the mechanism even easier to use, meaning that battery replacement is a breeze with the S25 Ultra. Sadly, while this used to be the case for nearly every phone, modern phone batteries are most often held in place with globs of adhesive, meaning replacing the battery (or nearly any other component) is a headache. iFixit applauds Samsung for returning things to a simpler time. Unfortunately, other components are still a pain to remove, such as the screen and main camera assembly. In addition to the video above, iFixit’s article on the teardown can be viewed here.
