WATCH: Up-close with IMAX 70mm film

Adam Savage gives a behind-the-scenes look at film's largest format

We’ve previously reported on The Odyssey’s groundbreaking release on IMAX 70mm film, cementing itself as the first feature film ever shot entirely on the medium. While the release has over all been a success, with the few theaters equipped with IMAX 70mm projectors selling out instantly, there have been isolated incidents of the necessary (and decades-old) equipment breaking down.

In a recent video uploaded by Adam Savage’s Tested, Adam Savage visits the IMAX headquarters to get an up-close look at the technology that powers the 70mm format. In the video, Savage tours IMAX’s vault of 70mm film prints, visits the in-house theater where directors view their projects, and watches how these massive film reels are spliced by technicians.
