Security vendor Pelco and Cisco Systems have entered a strategic technology agreement to pursue the joint development of new HD IP video security cameras based on Pelco’s Sarix technology platform. The co-branded video security cameras will be sold globally by Cisco Authorized Technology Providers and are scheduled to be available by the end of 2009, according to the companies.

“After conducting an extensive evaluation of current technologies, we found that Pelco has developed one of the most advanced IP HD imaging systems in the global security marketplace,” said Bill Stuntz, general manager and vice president of the Cisco Physical Security business unit, in a statement.

Pelco officials said the company will begin by supplying Cisco with a complete line of HD imaging technologies to extend Cisco’s existing camera line and network-centric video surveillance systems. Cameras co-branded by Cisco and Pelco will feature Sarix functions, such as full frame-rate video, H.264 compression, low-light performance, embedded analytics, and auto focus.

IP networking features will be embedded into the co-branded cameras as joint development progresses.
