At InfoComm 2011, Crestron announced the release of FreeSpeech, what it calls a budget-friendly wireless microphone system that enables teachers to move about the classroom and be heard clearly from anywhere in the room. Designed for K-12 classrooms, FreeSpeech provides an easy-to-install solution for adding amplified speech audio reinforcement as part of a complete classroom media presentation system.

“FreeSpeech helps teachers create a fun, engaging learning experience immediately, at a cost that doesn’t burden today’s tightening school budgets,” said Crestron director of marketing, Vincent Bruno, in a statement. “Installation is quick and simple so you can have any classroom up and running the same day.”

Compact and lightweight, the FreeSpeech hands-free microphone can be clipped to a lapel, hung around the neck, or placed in a tabletop stand for reliable, hassle-free operation. The built-in 30W stereo amplifier provides everything needed to drive a set of speakers and also allows for the connection of a DVD player, computer, or other audio sources. Independent volume buttons are built into the microphone for conveniently adjusting speech and sources volume levels.

Exclusive RF/IR wireless technology ensures consistent performance with complete freedom of movement while minimizing noise or feedback. The infrared “beacon” signal prevents interference between rooms, and even shuts the mic off automatically if the instructor leaves the room, according to Crestron.

FreeSpeech is available with a choice of one of two microphones. The FreeSpeech Dual Channel package enables interactive classroom experiences with two instructors—a teacher and a guest speaker—or using one microphone to pass around to students for responding to teachers’ questions.

The rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery provides six hours of usage. Recharging for up to two FreeSpeech microphones is handled by an included docking station. FreeSpeech connects seamlessly with any Crestron Quick Packs Classroom AV package to provide a complete classroom presentation system.
