Elite Screens has made several design modifications to its Raptor projection screen that the company says provides more versatility for residential AV integrators.

The electric floor-rising screen that conceals itself in a function furniture cabinet is now available in a front-mounted configuration that reportedly allows enough surface space for a flat-panel display up to 60 inches diagonal. Options using CineWhite Tension material for flatness and the 2.35:1 aspect ratio for widescreen movies will also be available.

Raptor is a completely self-standing projection screen for applications where wall or ceiling projection screen installations are not practical. The media-stand housing accommodates a variety of media room hardware.

"With enough surface space for a flat-panel TV, Raptor provides a perfect solution for both everyday viewing and special home theater experiences, " said David Rodgers, marketing manager for Elite, in a statement.

Elite's Raptor comes in three sizes: 72 inches, 84 inches, or 92 inches diagonal with 16:9 and 2.35:1 aspect ratios available. Elite's MaxWhite FG fiberglass-baked material provides a flat, visible surface in 1.1 gain or home theater versatility, the company says. Additional material options include CineWhite 1.1 gain tension material.

Raptor uses a motorized cross-rising "scissor" mechanism and is driven by a tubular motor that the company says has a high weight tolerance and operation lifespan. Its variable height settings accommodate a variety of environments, while the cabinet's design complements most decors.

Each Raptor unit comes with a 5-12-volt wireless trigger for drop/rise synchronization with a projector's power cycle along with IR/RF receivers to complete the wireless operation package. The RF remote operates without the need for line-of-sight contact. The ZR800D IR universal learning remote allows simultaneous screen operation with up to eight different media devices, so users can manipulate various video and media sources. Both the RF remote and ZR800D IR universal learning remote are included.

Elite's Raptor is currently available through retail, Internet, pro AV, and systems integrator channels for $4,899 and comes with the company's two-year manufacturer's limited warranty.
