Intelix has released the latest product in its passive AV over twisted-pair extender line, the AVO-VGA. The product extends video signals up to 450 feet over standard unshielded twisted-pair cable, such as Cat-5 or Cat-6.
Intelix has released the latest product in its passive AV over twisted-pair extender line, the AVO-VGA. The product extends video signals up to 450 feet over standard unshielded twisted-pair cable, such as Cat-5 or Cat-6.
“VGA over twisted-pair extension has always been a challenge-it usually comes down to balancing price against performance,” said Steve Cohan, Intelix CEO, in a statement. “Passive products are inexpensive, but they lack the skew correction of active models. The AVO-VGA changes that.”
The AVO-VGA features a skew-correcting switch that fixes image smearing and blurring, says the company. In addition, the extender’s compact size allows for easier mounting, while its shielded metal case and grounding screw provide electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection. Each AVO-VGA includes one send balun, one receive balun, and one 3-foot VGA cable.
To use the AVO-VGA, an installer needs to connect the send balun to a source device (typically a computer), connect the receive balun to the destination device (usually a monitor or projector), and link the two baluns with the standard unshielded twisted-pair cable. No power supply is necessary.
The AVO-VGA is suited for education, government, house of worship, corporate, residential, and or any other application that requires VGA video distribution, according to the company. The extender set retails for $175.
