Magenta Research, which specializes in video, audio, and control signal distribution over structured cabling, will introduce the Infinea M-HDX series, its latest signal extension product for commercial AV, digital signage, and KVM applications. The company is also debuting its new Infinea Opto Matryx digital video switching platform.

The Infinea M-HDX Series can simultaneously deliver uncompressed high-definition video, stereo audio, duplex serial, and USB signals over 2,000feet of fiber-optic cable, says the company. Uncompressed digital video extension enables pixel-for-pixel reproduction of high definition HDMI signals with embedded audio at 1080p/60 resolution and single link DVI-D signals at 1900×1200 without the need for reduced blanking.

“The bandwidth required for high-performance digital video alone makes signal extension over such long distances challenging,” said Magenta president Bob Michaels, in a statement. “While most solutions available today use compression, encoding or multiple fibers, Magenta not only offers uncompressed high-definition digital video on a single fiber, but also extending audio, duplex RS-232 and USB over the same link.”

The Infinea M-HDX is fully compatible with the Opto Matryx switch, which combines HDMI, DVI, RS-232, audio and USB into a scalable platform. The Opto Matryx boasts many signal types per input and output, including uncompressed 1080p/60 an 1920×1200 digital video, stereo audio, bidirectional RS-232, and USB. USB switching and extension on every input and output-an industry first, according to Magenta-enables a new wave of interactive digital signage applications by supporting Human Input Devices (HID) such as keyboards, mice, and touch screens.

The building-block chassis design utilizes factory or field upgradeable I/O modules and Magenta’s patent-pending inter-frame cascading capability to enable matrix dimensions from 8×8 to 96×80. Alternately, the switch can be configured for highly asymmetric configurations such as 128×8 and 32×160.
