NEC Display Solutions of America announced the addition of the 55-inch P551 to its professional-grade P Series. It also recently introduced the 42-inch V421 to its value-driven V Series.

Designed for 24/7 environments such as airports, public information, rental and staging, and health care, the P551 offers a s 120-Hz refresh rate and a wide range of inputs including DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D, 5 BNC in/out (RGBHV, DVD/HD, composite video), as well as RS-232 and Ethernet connectivity for remote monitoring, control, and e-mail notification.

The integrated expansion slot enables users to connect a variety of accessories, such as a single board computer, DVI daisy chain module, or internal HD-SDI card, to the P551 for additional methods for displaying content. The Energy Star 5.0-certified display has an ambient light sensor for consistent brightness and a carbon footprint meter to track and calculate the conservation of green gas emissions.

“The NEC P Series is now offering more features than ever in the P551 with 120 frames per second refresh rate and heightened flexibility that will suit any digital signage deployment and allow users to take full advantage of their digital content,” said Luke Bruschuk, product manager for NEC Display Solutions, in a statement. “It has advanced capabilities that 24/7 operations need, such as an Enhanced Digital Signage Technology Suite, the tandem-working TileMatrixT and TileCompT for seamless videowalls, and copy functions for applying the settings from one display to all others.”

The P551 supports 1920×1080 full high-definition resolution, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, and brightness up to 700 cd/m². It will be available for August 2010 shipment at an estimated street price of $3,499 and a three-year warranty. Its tuner counterpart, the P551-AVT, is offered at $3,649.

The new V421 is designed with corporate conference rooms, retail stores, and restaurants in mind, according to NEC. Its input panel includes HDMI, DVI-D, 5 BNC (RGBHV, DVD/HD or composite video), 15-pin D-sub in/out, S-Video, and composite video in/out. It can be remotely monitored and controlled via its built-in Ethernet port.

Company officials said the V421 is protective-glass and touch-panel-ready. Its real-time scheduler enables scheduling of content and power on/off, which saves both time and energy costs. Additionally, the display offers an advanced cooling fan-based technology to eliminate the possibility of overheating and runs off a high-performance, commercial-grade panel to protect against permanent image retention.

It supports 1920×1080 full HD resolution, brightness up to 500 cd/m² , and a 1,300:1 contrast ratio. It is Energy Star 5.0-compliant and designed for videowalls up to 5×5.

The V421 will be available this month at an estimated street price of $999. It ships with a 3-year parts and labor warranty, including the backlight.
