NEC Launches LED-Lit Displays
NEC Display Solutions of America announced its new 46-inch X461S and 55-inch X551S large-screen LCD displays.
NEC Display Solutions of America announced its new 46-inch X461S and 55-inch X551S large-screen LCD displays. They are the first in NEC’s large-screen lineup with LED backlighting technology.
The edge-lit X461S and X551S are also the first in NEC’s lineup to offer Intel’s Open Pluggable Specification (OPS), which is the first industrywide standardization in option slots to simplify digital signage, according to the company. The OPS option slot allows for easier installation, use, and maintenance of digital signage solutions.
“The introduction of the super-slim models to the NEC X Series is a step into the future, as they offer the most innovative technologies to date,” said Rachel Karnani, product manager for large-screen displays at NEC Display Solutions, in a statement. “LED backlit displays offer a much slimmer depth than traditional LCD displays, providing more flexibility during installation and a sleek appearance.”
The new models include DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI-D connectivity. They also have Ethernet and serial RS-232 ports.
The X461S and X551S have a native resolution of 1920×1080 and a contrast ratio up to 4,000:1. The displays give off 500 cd/m² of typical brightness and 600 cd/m² maximum brightness, and they can be oriented in landscape or portrait modes.
Ambient light sensors monitor external lighting conditions and adjust the displays accordingly, NEC officials said, and a real-time clock enables scheduling the monitors to power up and down. Each new display has built-in closed captioning and 5W speakers, plus a carbon-footprint meter that tracks and calculates the conservation of green gas emissions, according to NEC.
NEC said the X461S and X551S will be available in May and June 2011 for $2,399 and $3,799, respectively. Each carries a three-year limited parts and labor warranty, which includes the backlight.
