SmartAVI has introduced its FDX-2000 data signal extender, a fiber-optic signal extender for digital signage and remote desktop applications. The new extender transmits signals up to 1,400 feet from keyboard, mouse, audio, DVI-D, and RS-232 data sources.

The FDX-2000 is equipped with DVI-D connectors for single-link and optional keyboard/mouse extension. The solution comes with two units: a transmitter and a receiver capable of extending KVM data as well as stereo audio, high-resolution DVI-D video, and RS-232 control signals.

“The FDX-2000 is one of our new fiber-optic products that we’ve rolled out as part of our new high-performance extension line for digital networks utilizing high-speed fiber,” said Albert Cohen, president and CEO of SmartAVI, in a statement. “Fiber-optic technology has become an industry standard, allowing for cleaner, faster transfer of data around the world over lines that are a fraction of the size and mass of traditional communications cabling.”

According to the company, the FDX-2000 is capable of transmitting HDTV video up to 1920×1200 at 1,400 feet over multimode fiber without visible or audible signal loss. With a customizable and programmable DCC table, the FDX-2000 features full support of PS/2 mice, keyboards, and RS-232 signals from 300 bps to 19,200 bps.

The FDX-2000 is compatible with all operating systems and major KVM switches, says the company. Both transmitter and receiver units are housed in compact metal casings.

The suggested retail price for the FDX-2000 is $1,899.
