A-T Mics Become METAlliance-Certified
Audio-Technica has announced that the Music Engineering and Technology Alliance (METAlliance) has certified four new microphones in its 40 Series: the AT4080 and AT4081 bidirectional active ribbon microphones; the AT4050ST stereo condenser microphone; and the AT4047MP multi-pattern condenser microphone. “We are extremely proud that our new 40 Series of microphones have been recognized and certified by the METAlliance,” said Greg Pinto, U.S. vice president of marketing at Audio-Technica, in a statement. “Everyone at A-T worked hard to develop these new mics, and to have them certified by the METAlliance speaks volumes.”
The AT4080 and AT4081 are Audio-Technica’s first ribbon microphones. They were engineered and manufactured by an R&D team in Japan. According to the company, this design offers the sound of a ribbon microphone without the fragility and low output ribbon that sometimes accompany ribbon mics. The mics’ ribbon transducer combines durability and high SPL capability with smother, rich audio quality, says the company. The AT4080 has the footprint of a suspension-cradled site-address condenser while the AT4081 resembles a pencil condenser.
The AT4050ST is a stereo version of the AT4050. It’s a side-address condenser microphone with independent cardioid and figure-eight elements. The AT4047MP was developed in response to requests for a multipattern version of the AT4047/S, according to Audio-Technica. It’s a side-address, externally polarized, multipattern condenser microphone with three switchable polar patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure-eight.
