United Visual, a Chicago-based pro AV systems integration firm and 2009 Spotlight Award winner, has announced the promotion of Robert C. Carlson to the newly created role of chief operating officer (COO) and welcomed the return of Daniel L. Newman to his new role of vice president, sales and business development.

Carlson will oversee the day-to-day operations of the company, including oversight of the company’s executive management team, and report directly to United Visual’s board of directors, with the prime responsibility of streamlining the company’s operations and positioning the company to achieve further profit and growth targets.

Having spent his entire career in the pro AV industry, Carlson has held several roles within United Visual over the past 36 years, including service manager, MIS director, and most recently vice president and operations manager. The board of directors issued a statement saying, “We are confident that this appointment will allow United Visual to react more quickly to the demands of this fast-paced industry, while simultaneously positioning us to capitalize on the strong market opportunities.”

Daniel L. Newman originally worked for United Visual between 2004 and 2005, and has since held several positions within the pro AV industry. During his time with AMX Corp., he was responsible for leading channel and business development activities throughout the central U.S. region. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of Atomoo, a provider of network managed services.

According to a statement, the addition of Newman enhances United Visual’s presence in the Midwest, and better positions the company for continued growth in their core business of AV presentation system design and integration of corporate and educational spaces requiring a high degree of technology.
