Cinema, theme park, and concert technology integrate at Bubble Theatre.

The Bubble Theatre at City of Dreams in Macau features an immersive, 360-degree multimedia production that uses a complex AV system of projectors and lighting effects to take audiences on an underwater adventure.

Next month, the Themed Entertainment Association will celebrate the 16th annual THEA awards at Universal Studios, Hollywood, honoring 12 themed environment projects from across the globe. TEA President Steve Thorburn points out that the predominant theme this year is a maturation in the use of technology. “We’ve mastered the seamless and transparent blend of media and technology … all in the service of storytelling.”

One of the most compelling examples of this technological fluency is honoree Dragon’s Treasure, an immersive multimedia production at the 360° Bubble Theatre in Macau’s massive new City of Dreams resort. The theater holds 500 audience members who stand for the duration of an immersive 10-minute spectacular that integrates lighting, special effects, concert technology, HD, and more in ways that blur the line between one technology and another and between the simulated and the real.
