Lanode has announced a new Ethernet media converter. The FIB-10/100POF has the ability to convert from a 10/100BaseTX copper interface to 100BaseFX fiber interface using the latest plastic optical fiber.

According to the company, the FIB-10/100POF and the POF cable solution is light, easy to install, and is ideal for the latest converged triple-play applications, including data, VoIP, and IPTV.

Plastic optical fiber offers affordable, high-end connectivity for office, home, or industrial networks, thanks to its ruggedness, its immunity to electromagnetic interference, and its low cost. The FIB-10/100POF uses the SMI (Small Multimedia Interface) connector for use alongside 1mm plastic fiber and has the ability to drive 100Mbps optical signals up to 50m.

“POF is a viable alternative to copper wire used in traditional networks, as confirmed by industry experts who agree that there is a great future for POF solutions,” says Ian Philip, technical manager at Lanode. “The longevity of FIB-10/100POF is certain as a reliable and future-proof triple-play solution.”
