Tech Gallery: PTZ Cameras and Capture Devices
Getting reality to video and then on to its intended destination is a complex process, but more is now automatically done behind the scenes leaving operators free to concentrate on creativity. Advances in optics and signal processing allow for easy transfer while keeping manual options open in customizing the content for specific applications. The devices found here represent the current state of the art in PTZ/ capture of sound and video.
If the job is sending audio over IP, Barix has a proven hardware base in the
Instreamer. The device can accept any audio, convert it into G.711, PCM or high-quality MP3 streams and send the stream to up to 32 different destinations across the LAN or over the internet. With its Ethernet and serial ports, the Instreamer provides a simple and quick way to get the signal out. Streaming can be set to send always, send on CTS, send on level, or manually via web interface. Up to 32 BRTP streams at 128kbit/s are supported and the SNMP protocol can be used for monitoring.
The AJA Video Systems HELO is a H.264 streaming and recording stand-alone appliance with the ability to accept SDI and HDMI video and stream those signals. Compact enough to use anywhere, the HELO can encode up to 1080p 60 in H.264. 2-Channel stereo audio can be encoded at up to 24-bit 48kHz at data rates ranging from 32kbps to 256kps in MPEG-4 AACLC. The web browser based UI allows setup and configuration for a content delivery network connection in advance of the webcast. The web based GUI also generates a video preview window to ensure the framing and encoding are accurate.
The HDVS-CAM from Atlona is designed for soft codec applications with the HDVS-300 system but it is also available as part of an AT-UHDHDVS-300-C-KIT system package. The unit has a USB 2.0 interface for video and camera control. The 1/2.8in. low-noise, HD CMOS sensor provides imaging with fine detail and the multi-element 10x optical zoom lens has a 60.9-degree horizontal field of view. Video resolution can range from 176×144 up to 1080p @ 30 Hz while control options include TCP/IP, RS-232, USB, and IR. A convenient handheld IR remote control is included.
For light and very mobile streaming on the go, the AV Pro Edge Impulse does live or mobile streaming to all major streaming services. Handling video signals up to 1080p, it can be configured with any browser and operates with any camera that has an HDMI or SDI output. Recording to an SSD card can be done simultaneously with streaming. This is ideal for houses of worship, bars, restaurants, content creators, hospitals and schools. The unit is also embedded with external WiFi antennas for wireless access and transmission. The front panel includes a setup and configuration display and navigation buttons.
The first portable Thunderbolt 3 capture and playback device is Blackmagic Design’s UltraStudio HD Mini with the capability to capture and playback all formats up to 1080p60 in full 10-bit YUV, or up to 1080p30 and 2K DCI in 12-bit RGB. It also features an HDMI monitoring output and dual 3G-SDI outputs for fill and key playback, plus analog audio and video inputs for digitizing and archiving materials from older analog decks. Transferring data at up to 40 Gb/s, it can capture and play back fully uncompressed video. The optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel adds LCD monitoring and additional controls to the front of UltraStudio HD Mini.
Bosch Security and Safety Systems has introduced the MIC IP starlight 7000i to withstand severe weather conditions, vibration and impact and it features Intelligent Video Analytics enabling the detection of objects over long distances. It offers Bosch’s starlight technology as standard, combined with a 1080p resolution and frame rate of 60 fps. Detailed color images are possible in ambient light levels down to 0.0077 lux. The camera can be complemented with an optional illuminator, enabling high quality images in complete darkness over a distance of up to 450 meters.
The UNITE 150 PTZ is the newest USB professional grade camera from ClearOne for web conferencing. The camera provides 1080p video @ 30fps and its 12x optical zoom can catch detail even in the largest conference rooms while its 73-degree wide angle can include a sizable assembly of participants. Compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0, the system supports UVC and UAC protocols. Features include advanced 2D and 3D noise reduction and backlight compensation along with auto and m a n u a l white balance. It can be daisy chained with RS232 and there are up to 255 presets.
The Crestron DM-TXRX-100-STR HD Streaming Transmitter/Receiver can be used with a DigitalMedia system or other application for H.264 streaming with AAC stereo sound. A web browser can be used with the unit’s IP address to configure it as a transmitter or receiver and its LAN port provides PoE. Supporting HD streaming input or output at resolutions up to 1080p and bitrates up to 25 Mbps, the device does both unicast and multicast streaming with or without RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol).
Hanwha Techwin, founded as Samsung Techwin, designed the PNM9320VQP as a multidirectional PTZ NW camera with exchangeable lens modules and video resolution up to 20 megapixels. It can monitor a 360-degree area with the multidirectional camera and its four independently moveable sensors while the PTZ camera can zoom in to provide fine detail. When an object of interest is detected on the wide view, the control is given to the PTZ which can zoom and track. Its Hallway View provides 3:4 or 16:9 vertically oriented framing.
The JVC KY-PZ100 can use a network connection via WiFi, 4G-LTE (with optional adapter) or wired LAN using JVC’s unique IP communications engine. It can be used as a stand alone unit or as part of a multi-camera system. It has 3G-SDI and HDMI outputs and it can stream 1080i/60, 1080p, 720p and 360p with 2-channel audio. The camera can be controlled with a web browser or with the dedicated RPM-LP100 remote control panel. Features include onboard HD recording up to 50Mbps to a micro SDHC/SDXC card.
Kramer has a solution for high performance 4K@60Hz (4:2:0), H.264 video encoding with their
KDS−EN5. Supporting PoE and video walls up to 16×16, it also has streaming capability for multicast, unicast and RTP over RTSP. The unit enables open software decoding through the VLC player and its networking features include standard Ethernet network operation at 10/100/1000 Mb and it is configurable for DHCP, static or auto IP. The device is managed and controlled through embedded web pages and API. An analog audio output provides sound monitoring.
Magewell Pro Capture HDMI 4K Plus LT is a PCIe capture card with a loop-through HDMI interface. Compatible with Windows, MAC and Linux, the card captures two simultaneous channels of Ultra HD video with embedded audio. The HDMI loop-through enables each source signal to be sent simultaneously to additional displays or equipment without the need for external HDMI splitters. On each video capture channel there is independent control of capture resolution, frame rate and processing settings.
Marshall Electronics designed the CV420-CS as a true 4K camera built around a 12.4-Megapixel, 1/1.7in. sensor. Providing resolution of 4096x2160p at 60fps, it has a single 12G (BNC) and a simultaneous HDMI 2.0 output. The camera also features a CS/C lens mount format that offers a wide range of lens options with DC auto-iris plug-in capability. Remote adjustments and control are connected through RS485 (Visca) or OSD menu joystick on breakout-cable. Adjustments include red/blue paint, white balance, gain control, pedestal (blacks), exposure and gamma.
Another new and innovative dual input 4K device for simultaneous two-channel capture is the
Maevex 6120 from Matrox with options to stream and record more channels in different configurations on a standard one Gigabit Ethernet network. Among its features is the ability record to local or network storage for later editing and viewing. Using the Maevex PowerStream Plus software, the user can monitor and manage the entire Maevex installation of devices, and streams. It supports simultaneous SRT, RTSP, RTP, RTMP, and MPEG2.TS streaming and MP4 recording.
Panasonic AW-UE150 is a professional PTZ camera system featuring a 1in. large MOS sensor and it supports high-quality 4K/UHD 60p video with a 75.1-degree wide viewing angle and a 20x optical zoom. The camera can output video for 12G-SDI, HDMI, optical fiber and IP with simultaneous 4K/ HD formats. The AW-UE150 is run with the AW-RP150 controller using its seesaw lever mounted on the joystick to manage pan, tilt, zoom and focus with single-handed operation along with its built-in touch display.
For lecture capture, telemedicine and other applications, the
SRG-360SHE from Sony carries HD video and power on the same cable. Additional outputs provide simultaneous feeds over 3G-SDI and HDMI. The Exmor CMOS image sensor provides a good picture in poorly lit environments and the 30x optical zoom is enhanced with a digital zoom. Live images can be viewed via a web browser on a PC that can also recall up to 256 stored camera viewing position setups. There is an onboard stereo microphone and the SRG360SHE can be controlled remotely using VISCA command protocols over IP or RS-422.
As a versatile surveillance camera system, the
Speco Technologies HTPTZ20T combines its 20x optical zoom and 1/2.8in. Sony Starvis CMOS sensor with its true wide dynamic range and day/night functions to produce full HD 1080p @ 30fps video in very low light levels. It also has a 380 degree per second pan/tilt speed, 16x digital zoom, 4.7mm wide angle view and full OSD control via UTC in pan, tilt and zoom. Up to 240 preset positions can be set and with the 10-190 degree tilt range it can get a good angle on anything in its area. Additional features include motion detection and backlight compensation.
The UV100T-20 autotracking PTZ camera from Tekvox provides 1080P/60 video and two SDI outputs with IP streaming along with its 20x optical zoom. Designed primarily for the education and conferencing markets, the camera can track an instructor once a tracking mask has been created and saved. If tracking is lost, a specific preset position can automatically be recalled. The system supports both Sony VISCA and PELCO commands with 120 presets. It can be ceiling mounted and configured for multiple video output resolutions. The camera can be controlled using a control system, joystick controller and IP all at the same time. Versatility is complete with both fixed panoramic and PTZ elements.
As we go to press, Vaddio is launching the
RoboSHOT 40 UHD, a broadcast-quality PTZ camera with 40x zoom, genlock capabilities, smooth motor movement and superior imaging. The RoboSHOT 40 UHD was designed with a genlock external sync port to provide accurate synchronization in multi-camera broadcast environments, plus phase compensation to fine-tune and adjust the genlock signal. The camera deliver 4K resolution at 30fps through 30x zoom; in HD mode it delivers a 40x zoom in 1080p/60. The 1/2.5 Type Exmor R CMOS Sensor offers powerful image signal processing. The RoboSHOT 40 UHD is driven by Vaddio’s next generation silent motor and tri-synchronous motion algorithms, which eliminates jitter or bouncing even at full zoom. Other features include 70.2° horizontal field of view (wide) to 4.1° (tele), simultaneous IP streaming (RTSP/RTMP format with H.264 compression) up to 1080p/30, remote management, and flexible mounting options. RoboSHOT 40 UHD is available in black or white models.
Vinten Vantage compact robotic camera head allows virtually any hand-held video camera to be remotely controlled just like a PTZ type. The unit weighs 2.2Kg, includes a bubble level indicator and it can be mounted on any flat base tripod or 75mm bowl tripod using the optional bowl adapter. The head has variable speed control along with tally indicator. It can be operated with the µVRC control system.
One of the most useful advances in AV streaming has been in hardware mobility. The
Vitec MGW Diamond takes quad channel HEVC and H.264 HD/SD video encoding to the road with the ability to output up to eight streams simultaneously. Capturing up to 4x 3G/HD/ SD-SDI or composite inputs, the unit also supports KLV/STANAG metadata ingest, real-time image cropping and video scaling, forward error correction (FEC) streaming and JITC compliant output streams. The whole package is a compact, low-power hardware design optimized for the field with very low power use.
