TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE: PTZ Cameras

The Acti Corp. I98is a 2-megapixel speed dome system with extreme WDR, 33x optical (10x digital) zoom, auto-focus, and a resolution of 1920×1080@60fps. The weatherproof unit is rated IP66 and its endless pan-and-tilt capability quickly turns its scratch-resistant and water-repellent lens in any direction needed. Its vandal-proof metal casing has a built-in dehumidifier for clear images in any weather condition. Additional features include remote manual control, 256 preset points, 10 preset tours, and auto scan. There is also local storage on MicroS-DHC. The privacy masking offers up to 20 configurable regions,and the video motion detection has 10 regions. The system also has two-way audio with mic-in, line-in and line- out. Alarms can notify a control center, go to a PTZ preset point or preset tour, change cam- era settings, command other devices, and send email notification with snapshots.

At ISE in February, AJA Video Systemsintroduced RovoCam, the company’s first compact block camera for industrial, corporate, security, ProAV and broad- cast applications. Built in collaboration with Sony, it utilizes Sony’s 4K FCB- ER8300 Functional Camera Block, with its back-illuminated CMOS sensor (1/2.3. type 8.9 megapixel). The 4K camera has built-in 12x optical and up to 20x zoom with Sony Super Resolution Zoom. AJA brings its integrated HDBaseT interface, which supports uncompressed video, power, stereo audio, and RS-232 over a single CAT 5e/6 cable up to 100 meters at UltraHD and HD resolutions. AJA’s companion RovoRX-HDMI receiver allows for simple integration of an HDMI output; RovoCam is also compatible with select third party receivers. The camera is built into a lightweight aluminum case with standard mounting options on either side, and is compatible with Sony’s SNCUNIHB/1 outdoor housing.

PTZ cameras can also shine outside the realm of security, and theAxis Communications V59 Seriesis a great example of the versatility in AV production that these units can offer. Designed to stream and broadcast video and sound in a variety of applications, the V59 Series combines a 30x optical zoom with autofocus, two-way stereo sound, and a maximum resolution of 1920×1080 on the V5915 (1280×720 on the V5914). Both models offer wide dynamic range and the capability to produce images in very low light levels. Each transmits audio and includes SDI and HDMI video. The pan/tilt movement is extra smooth so that live, on-air camera moves can be made without any jerkiness or shaking. The cameras have a professional connector panel that includes two balanced audio XLR inputs with phantom power, a balanced mono input, and an unbalanced 3.5mm audio output.

Designed for live video production, Blackmagic Design’s Micro Studio Camera 4Kincludes an expansion port that features PTZ output allowing remote control of pan/tilt heads, and broadcast lenses all from a single SDI connection. The camera is an HD and Ultra HD live studio camera that can be remote controlled via SDI. It includes 6G-SDI, built- in color corrector, talkback, tally, PTZ control, MFT lens mount, B4 lens control output, and is fully controllable from Blackmagic’s ATEM switchers. PTZ communication uses the proven and reliable RS-485 protocol. Pan, tilt, and zoom commands can be sent from an ATEM switcher over SDI to the camera. Servo lenses are smoothly zoomed directly from the camera, while the pan, tilt, and zoom commands are also sent from the expansion port’s PTZ output to a compatible motorized head. It can also be used in the studio by rigging it with a professional broadcast lens and a Blackmagic Video Assist for monitoring.

The AUTODOME IP 5000 HDcamera from Boschis suited for indoor and outdoor environments where users will need to identify objects up to 623ft. away from the camera. Users can locate, track, and zoom in on details. It also enables object detection at a distance of up to 5,249ft. The addition of superior privacy masking also makes this AUTODOME IP camera ideal for monitoring public areas without compromising the privacy of individuals. With its high resolution up to 1080p and 30x optical zoom, the AUTODOME IP 5000 HD delivers the highest quality images, even over large distances. PoE capability widens installation options as does ONVIF Profile S and third-party software support for easy integration with VMS. Its tracking feature can follow individuals and vehicles.

Imaging in the Canon BU-47Hhigh-definition PTZ camera teams a three-CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV III Image Processor to produce 1080i full HD resolution in a wide variety of lighting conditions from a minimum of 0.08 lux. For scenes at the other end of the brightness scale, it has four ND filter positions. In fine tuning the video, adjustments include color level, gain, gamma, white balance, skin detail, and sharpness. Its wide angle 18x zoom lens passes distortion-free images while the optical image stabilization resists the effects of vibration to produce smooth video. Tough to withstand unfriendly outdoor environments, the BU-47 is IP45 rated dustproof and waterproof. It also features a wiper for the lens. The camera can pan 340 degrees and tilt up +30 and down -50 degrees.

The Unite 200PTZ camera from ClearOnehas USB, HDMI, and IP connections that can be used either simultaneously or separately for meeting rooms, PC-based web conferencing, AV production, and many more applications. The system’s full HD 1080p@60fps video resolution is coupled with its 12x optical zoom and 73-degree wide field of view for clear and detailed images. Super-High SNR and advanced 2D and 3D noise reduction also work to produce remarkable video. Control options for the camera’s pan, tilt, and zoom functions include via RS-232, USB (UVC), or IP-based Web management. The camera works with many popular PC-based video applications and is compatible with ClearOne COLLABORATE Pro.

The PTC-400Chas been strong for Elmoand its 12x optical/16x digital zoom, day/night operation and 100-degree-per-second pan and tilt speed allow it to cover a wide area with precision. Different pan and tilt speeds can be set to customize operation. Add to that the twin alarm inputs, 16 position presets and IR/ serial control for a great all-around security asset. The IR remote can be sensed by the camera for up to 7 meters in front. There is auto and manual white balance for difficult lighting situations and auto/manual focus. Picture adjustments include hue, AGC gain, detail compensation, and a high-speed shutter. Area masking can be used as well as 180-degree image flip to accommodate various mounting positions. Up to 223 cameras can be daisy-chained for RS-485 control and with the Elmo remote controller, up to nine cameras may be used. The camera system operates on 12VDC and it has a power save mode.

With five autoscan, eight tours, five pattern settings, and up to 300 presets, the ICIP- P2040-IRfrom IC Realtimecan extend its IR sensing up to 90ft. Its viewing options include Web browsers, SmartICRSS, ICRSS Pro, and IC View Android apps. Maximum resolution at 25/30fp is 1080p, and at 50/60fps, it is 720p. Other features include DWDR, day/night (ICR), Ultra DNR, auto iris, and auto focus, along with H.264 and MJPEG dual-streams encoding. There is a built-in microphone and local micro SD recording, maximum 100-degree-per-second pan speed and 4x optical zoom. The camera can make color images in light down to 0.05 [email protected] and mono- chrome at 0.005 [email protected]. This model also has auto/manual gain and focus control, a 16x digital zoom, and up to 24 areas of privacy masking. It automatically restores previous PTZ and lens status after power failure.

The CV620-WH/BKBroadcast PTZ Cam- era from Marshall Electronics generates 1920x1080i, 1920x1080p, and 1280x720p @ 59.94/60/50/30/29.97/25fps through a 2-megapixel sensor with 20x optical zoom AF block. It can deliver its signal by way of 3G/HD-SDI, HDMI (DVI), component (VGA), and composite video outputs, and pan its 20x optical (12x digital) zoom through 340 degrees and tilt 120 degrees. The cam- era can be remotely operated and controlled via RS232/RS422, and it’s compatible with integrated video conferencing systems. For daisy-chained operation there is an RS232 loop-through and camera address selector. There is a wide range of adjustments available such as gain control, white balance, exposure control, and auto/manual focus. Optional controllers include the VS-PTZ-200, VS- TKC-100, VS-PTC-50, and the VS-PTC-150.

The new Panasonic AeroPTZnetwork camera was first shown at ISC West 2016 and it provides reliable and sustainable operation for mission-critical applications even under severe weather conditions. The highly durable 360-degree aerodynamic spherical design minimizes interference drag for more visual stability and enables the camera to perform even in extreme conditions such as high- gust winds, salty winds, and arctic-to-desert weather conditions with a special glass-fiber lightweight body. The camera’s imaging system produces full HD images and it features a Video SAS (Stability Augment System) for high-class image stabilization, high-wind load durability (approximately 134mph) and optional IR LED light for clear images in low-light to no-light environments.

Optera with SureVision 2.0 provides what Pelcorefers to as the Optera Panomersive Experience with a wide scene view, any part of which can be instantly detailed through pan, tilt, and zoom for much closer examination. It does this through optimization and seamless stitching of four sensors along with client-side de-warping. Using Anti-Bloom technology and proprietary image processing, the Optera line of cameras produces clear images in very low light at up to 12 megapixel resolution. Sure- Vision 2.0 enhances traditional noise filtering technology by incorporating spatial noise reduction (SNR) using information from previous frames to calculate and form a model to remove noise from the current frame without critical scene detail degradation. The Optera line includes the Optera 360 ̊ for wide open areas, the Optera 270 ̊ for corner areas, and the Optera 180 ̊ for installation on walls and hallways.

Samsung’s SNP-6320RH Spider Camera features a high-performance 32x optical zoom lens(4.4~140.8mm focal range) and infrared LED illuminator to clearly capture precision details at distances up to 492ft. in lighting levels as low as 0 lux. The camera’s 16x digital zoom provides a combined optical and digital zoom capability of 512x. Conventional cameras often produce unsatisfactory results when used in environments illuminated by both infrared and conventional lighting sources, and deliver images that appear unfocused or feature light bleeding. The SNP-6320RH Spider Camera eliminates these aberrations with enhanced optics and image processing to capture sharp, focused images even under these conditions. The imaging system provides a resolution of 1080p@60fps and there is auto-tracking and digital image stabilization. Additional features include D/SDHC/ SDXC memory slot and bi-directional audio support. 

The Sony SRG- 120DUis the latest addition to the SRG high-definition, remote-operated camera product line, and the first to feature a USB 3.0 interface. It is also capable of connecting with Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) and multimedia streaming devices. For use in small-to medium-size rooms, the unit’s 12x optical/12x digital zoom auto focus lens is perfect for room-wide shots and detailed close-ups. When its USB 3.0 port is connected to a PC, it becomes a video production machine for boardroom, classroom, courtroom, or medical environments. Pan/tilt/zoom controls are operated by VISCA protocols through either the RS-232C serial connector or RJ-45IP connection for centralized control room operation through a device such as Sony’s RM-IP10 IP remote controller. The SRG-series PC control software allows full access to camera functions such as exposure, white balance, and gain.

The Speco Technologies O2P30brings full HD 1080p in from outside with a 4.3-129mm 30x optical zoom lens, wide dynamic range operation, and built-in PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at). It uses a progressive scan 1/2.8in. CMOS, 2.0MP image sensor to provide color images down to 1 lux and monochrome to 0.01 lux. The camera supports H.264 and MJPEG codecs, and features two-way audio communication. Its environment is sealed through IP66 compliance, and there is local recording capability through the camera’s SD card slot. White balance is manual, automatic, and ATW, while its imaging supports a resolution up to 1280×720@30fps. Capable of two simultaneous streams, the O2P30 has a maximum panning speed of 500 degrees per second and 256 preset positions. It can be set for 10 programmable group tours, auto-pan from two to eight points, four programmable patterns with 760 commands per pattern, and 10 groups with eight presets per group.

Reliable, around-the-clock, outdoor security is the idea behind theToshiba IKS- WP8203R, an IP66 rated video system with true day/night, Digital WDR, 20x optical zoom, integrated heater and defog function. Imaging produces 3MP resolution at 30fps, and the unit is ONVIF compliant for maximum compatibility with a wide range of systems and controllers. The camera can pan 360 degrees while using its auto focus, auto/ indoor/outdoor/ATW, or manual white balance and auto/manual gain control. It also has four motion detection zones and a privacy mask covering 16 zones. Sending out its signal on a variety of network protocols, the IKS-WP8203R can be accessed by up to 20 clients and record locally on its SD card slot zeroing in with 256 presets. There are many mounting brackets, wall arms, and adapters to make installation just about anywhere an easy task.

The TV-IP662PI from TRENDnetis a day/ night 720p PoE network PTZ camera with night vision up to 25ft. and the capability to record video to a Micro SD card or NAS device. It can also email motion detection video clips and users can define preset PTZ auto-patrol points. The image sent to the 1/4in. CMOS sensor can be magnified by a 4x digital zoom and it can make pictures down to 1 lux with IR off and to 0 lux with IR on. Its codecs provide H.264, MPEG4, and JPEG streams, and the unit has a built-in microphone along with a 3.5mm audio jack for third-party speakers. The micro SD card recording has a capacity up to 32GB and the system includes a non-PoE power jack to broaden installation powering options. The management interface features adjustments for brightness, contrast, saturation, black/ white, hue, mirror, flip, indoor/outdoor, light frequency, white balance, day/night mode with IR sensitivity adjustment, slow shutter with disable, 1/15s, 1/10s, 1/7.5s, and 1/3.75s settings. Events can be triggered by either motion or sound.

Vaddio’s PCC Premier camera controller has a full-color touchscreen interface for easy-to-find camera functions, pan, tilt, and zoom speed control knobs, illuminated push buttons for camera selection, large focus knob for fine control with auto/manual toggle, and a three-axis Hall-effect joystick for smooth precise camera movements. It comes equipped with many precision controls for the most demanding camera operation environments. All of these controls are browser based and available through an embedded Web server for control anywhere. The unit comes with full preset store and recall, CCU functionality, and IP management for seamless control of any Vaddio RoboSHOT or ClearSHOT cameras anywhere in the world. The controller is appropriate for creating a remote studio or state-of-the-art broadcast system. The PCC Premier is capable of controlling up to 16 PTZ cameras simultaneously, in two groups of eight each, through its 7in. touchscreen interface. The user can store up to 11 camera groups in the address book: 10 IP and/or RS-232 control, plus one predefined RS-232-only group.
