Williams Sound will be premiering its new large area infrared listening system, the WIR TX90, at this years’ InfoComm conference in Orlando, Fla., June 3-8.

The WIR TX90 is a powerful infrared transmitter designed for use in cinemas, auditoriums, courtrooms, schools, and other large room facilities that require hearing assistance and simultaneous interpretation.

This two-channel infrared system combines modulator and emitter technology into a single operating unit, which reduces operating cost and eliminates precious rack space.
The WIR TX90 can transmit an audio signal up to 28,000 square feet throughout a listening area when used with Williams Sound’s WIR RX12-4 receiver. Additional emitters can be connected to the unit for unlimited coverage.

SoundPlus infrared technology allows multiple WIR TX90 units to be installed in adjacent rooms without overlapping the signals—making it possible to have several WIR TX90 systems operating simultaneously in a single large facility. 2.3MHz-3.8MHz operation ensures less susceptibility of high-efficiency lighting interference.

One of the more impressive features on the WIR TX90 is the built-in application configuration control. With a simple push of a button, the installer can quickly and easily set up the unit for the most common audio applications: voice, music, or hearing assistance. The WIR TX90 then configures itself to the optimal audio setting for that application.

“Installers will love the WIR TX90,” says Mark Medcalf, technical product manager at Williams Sound. “The unit takes the guesswork out of complex audio installation. They just select the desired preset application—voice, music or hearing assistance—and they’re done.”

Cinema owners will also enjoy the WIR TX90. Not only does the WIR TX90 provide hearing assistance, but it can also provide audio description for the visually impaired customer. As a two-channel system, the WIR TX90 can transmit the audio for both simultaneously—with no additional equipment to buy.

The WIR TX90 will integrate directly with the cinema’s audio processor system, such Dolby’s Screentalk, for audio description. Movie participants (wearing wireless infrared headsets) simply select a channel for hearing assistance, or alternatively, select a channel for audio description—depending on their needs. Cinema owners are able to cater to a broader audience, and new customers results in more business for the facility.

The WIR TX90 meets ADA and DDA government requirements for hearing assistance, and can be used anywhere in the world—no radio license required.
