Lake Havasu City, AZ and INFOCOMM, Orlando, FL – June 16, 2015 — Ambisonic Sound Technologies, a manufacturer specializing in high-output, audiophile-quality loudspeakers and formerly known as Stix & Drums, is showing their new MA Series loudspeakers for the first time at InfoComm. The MA series’ modular approach allows a sound system designer to deliver true line-array performance in an articulating arrangement. The series consists of Modular Articulating Line-Array Loudspeakers that use True Coaxially-aligned mid-range and PMRD tweeter drivers to create outstanding ProAudiophile performance in a flexible, modular option. The series includes the MA1600 Compact Line-Array Module and the MA1216, high-impact, high-efficiency subwoofer to produce a full-range solution for professional installations and live events.
Company founder and CEO Jeffrey Coombs says “In addition to our STX Series of single-box solutions, we wanted to offer a more flexible option for those installations where greater speaker articulation was needed, but where high-quality sound was still a priority. The MA series delivers on those requirements.”
The MA1600 Compact Line Array Module utilizes the company’s advanced Planar Magnetic Ribbon Design (PMRD) drivers and a high-power 6.5-inch custom, neodymium-magnet driven, Kevlar/paper Mid-Woofer. The True Coaxial configuration of these drivers along with their unique Waveguides creates a wide, 110-degree horizontal coverage. The ability to install a Line Array, with a recommended minimum of four boxes that can be articulated from 0 to 8 degrees in 1-degree increments, improves front-to-back audience coverage to within +/- 2dB. The companion MA1216 Compact Subwoofer Module’s long-excursion driver and dual-layered voice coil extends low frequencies down to 34Hz. Up to 24 line-array modules or 12 subwoofer modules can be flown in a single hang using the integrated rigging, while still providing a seven-to-one safety factor.
The MA1600 module’s outstanding performance starts with the advanced PMRD design. These ribbon tweeter drivers feature the lowest mass-moving system in the industry for unparalleled transient response and faithful signal reproduction. This results in silky-smooth sound that is fitting of high-end audiophile speakers. Thanks to an increased RMS to PEAK ratio that greatly improves dynamics, and a proprietary manufacturing process that utilizes a molecular bond between the aluminum and Kapton substrate for superior reliability, the driver is still able to belt out the high-output levels necessary for larger venues, while retaining that audiophile-like accuracy.
The tweeter is complemented by a proprietary mid-woofer design that features a powerful, yet lightweight neodymium-magnet motor structure. The strength and lightness of the motor yields extremely low distortion in the critical mid-range frequencies that matches with the faithfulness of the ribbon tweeter. Weather–resistant Kevlar/paper cone material generates stiffness and durability with less coloration, while the entire low mass, extremely balanced and stable moving system provides for more linear performance and high sensitivity.
But it’s the integration of the ribbon tweeter and mid-woofer in a True Coaxial design that produces a perfectly symmetrical horizontal coverage pattern. Lower distortion is achieved due to the acoustic filter effect of having the tweeter placed in front of the woofer. Adding the company’s unique Waveguide design delivers 110-degrees of horizontal coverage. Finally, the Modular Loudspeaker, when installed in an Articulated Line Array that’s been optimized with Ambisonic Sound Technologies’ own Array Optimization Software (AOS) offers a configuration where the listener in the back row can hear the same sound level as the person in the front row, within +/- 2dB.
Ambisonic Sound Technology offers the MA1216 Subwoofer to match with, and complement the low frequencies of the Modular Line Array Loudspeaker. The single, long-excursion, high-powered 12-inch driver provides plenty of output from the bass reflex enclosure and includes a dual-layered 4-inch voice coils for exceptional reliability. The 1216 can be flown with the MA1600 and articulated to match. Up to 12 Modules can be flown in a single hang with an ability to create either an in-fire array or a cardioid pattern.
These speakers are coming soon and will be available in black or white. Pricing and specific availability have not yet been announced.
Array Optimization Software (AOS)
Ambisonic Sound Technologies’ unique Array Optimization Software (AOS) is a Line Array aiming program that allows a system designer to draw up to seven different listening planes and optimize the aiming and articulation of the loudspeaker array for any number of those planes. The AOS makes designing and installing a fully optimized, high-quality Line Array system an effortless activity.
