AVnu Alliance Announces First AVnu-Certified AVB Products

Extreme Networks Family of Switches Receives AVnu Certification

Beaverton, Ore. – February 20, 2014

AVnu Alliance

A®, the industry consortium that certifies Audio Video Bridging (AVB) products for interoperability, is proud to announce the first AVnu-certified AVB series of switches from Extreme Networks. The Extreme Networks SummitA® X440 Series of stackable switches has passed all testing for certification and will now bear the AVnu-certified Logo.

“We are thrilled to announce the first AVnu-certified family of switches from Extreme Networks. This is just the first of many AVnu-certified products to come, but an important start. We are proud of Extreme Networks’ dedication to furthering the momentum of AVB,” said AVnu Alliance President, Rick Kreifeldt. “The Alliance chose to do more than simply connect products together and check that they can connect and stream. Instead, we developed a robust set of hundreds of conformance tests that ensure devices implement AVB standards consistently — which is the only way to ensure interoperability.”

Once a product has passed the testing procedures at an AVnu-appointed test house, the member manufacturer may use the AVnu certification logo on that device. This is the first and only independent AV networking certification test program.

“AVB provides an infrastructure that supports a level of scalability and flexibility that is extremely important for our switches. We put our SummitA® X440 Series of stackable switches through the extensive testing and are extremely proud to announce it as the first AVnu-certified switch series on the market,” said Todd Acree, Director of Product Management at Extreme Networks, AVnu Alliance member. “We chose to pursue AVnu standards and certification of our Summit X440 Series switches because having technology that meets this standard takes the complexity of managing and optimizing the network out of the question, thereby simplifying system design, costs and maintenance, all while improving performance, reliability and overall network functionality.”

Extreme Networks’ AVB Summit X440 Series, now AVnu-certified, is a stackable switch that extends the benefits of the ExtremeXOSA® operating system to intelligent, affordable, edge switching for professional audio/video applications, where data, audio and video co-exist on a single standards-based network. IT managers and AV integrators benefit from simplified deployments, enhanced quality of service and reduced costs from a converged network.

The AVnu-Certified Extreme Networks Summit X440 Series Switch was demonstrated in the AVnu Alliance Pavilion at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), earlier this month

.

AVnu Certification is open for switches and professional audio products at its appointed testing house, University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab (UNH-IOL). Any member with a Professional-Audio product or switch may enter it into certification testing.
