DJ Young 1 and Stanton Had Everyone Hoppin‘ At the 136th Annual White House Easter Egg Roll

WASHINGTON D.C., APRIL 23, 2014

— 11-year-old DJ sensation

DJ Young 1

was among the celebrities and performers who appeared at the

136th Annual White House Easter Egg Roll

on Monday, April 21. When she wasn’t rubbing elbows with the likes of actor Jim Carrey, pop rock group R5, TV host Dr. Oz and singer Arianna Grande, DJ Young 1 was using

Stanton’s STR8.150 turntables

and

M.203 Mixer

for two 20-minute performances. Featuring a mix of classic and modern hits, DJ Young 1’s laid down the beats for a live crowd of more than 30,000 people assembled on the South Lawn of the White House, as well as all the viewers who tuned in to the live stream online or through the network morning shows covering the event.

A traditional turntabilist who is inspired by many genres, including old school hip-hop, top 40 pop, reggae, electro/club and house music, DJ Young 1 put on quite a show and got people dancing, which was a perfect showcase for First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative. In support of Obama’s healthy living practices, the theme of this year’s Easter Egg Roll, “Hop Into Healthy, Swing Into Shape,” promotes the education of families on smart ways to incorporate healthy eating and exercise choices into their daily routine.

“I had so much fun performing at the White House Easter Egg Roll and I’m so grateful to Mrs. Obama for inviting me to join her for this famous and prestigious event!,” says DJ Young 1, the youngest-ever graduate of Jam Master Jay’s Scratch DJ Academy in Los Angeles. “To make sure everything was in place before sound check, Gibson’s DC showroom sent the Stanton STR8.150 and M.203 Mixer over to the White House ahead of the event. It was perfect, I had all of the gear that I’m used to performing with right at my fingertips, and I didn’t have to worry about getting it there!”

Lending perfectly to DJ Young 1’s musical style, the Stanton STR8.150 is a back-to-basics, no nonsense turntable that has everything professional DJs need, and nothing they don’t. Featuring a skip-proof, straight tone arm, the STR8.150 offers durable construction designed to minimize feedback, an industry-leading torque motor and an ultra-stable platter that ensured that DJ Young 1 didn’t miss a beat. It also boasts a 50 percent pitch adjustment, S/PDIF digital outputs and functions such as key correction and reverse.

A two-channel performance mixer, the M.203 has a clean and intuitive layout that was designed by working DJs to be perfect for everyone from amateurs to professionals. Featuring a full rotary three-band EQ per channel, the mixer also has a rugged alpha crossfader with an ultra-accurate FET-isolated “cut” setting. It has a high-quality design and rugged steel chassis, giving it a professional look and feel at an affordable price point.

A Stanton endorsed artist, DJ Young 1’s musical influence dates back to her mom, Ellen, playing jazz and old school hip-hop throughout her pregnancy. Music continues to be not only a great source of energy, but also a relaxing ritual for the duo. DJ Young 1 credits Charlie Parker, The Ohio Players, Grandmaster Flash, Jam Master Jay and Run D.M.C. for her talent an inspiration.

“With a musical style that’s reminiscent of my own childhood, DJ Young 1 was certainly a hit at the White House Easter Egg Roll,” says friend, mentor and fellow Stanton endorsed artist, DJ Spark. “It’s really awesome to see her talents getting recognition on such a national level. We couldn’t be more proud of DJ Young 1 for this event and all of her accomplishments!”

DJ Young 1 is quickly becoming a rising star and has already made several high-profile appearances, including the San Francisco Supper Club; Pride Celebrations in Los Angeles and Oakland, California; the Washington D.C. and Los Angeles Human Rights Campaign Galas; The GrammyA® Awards Gifting Suite; and a spotlight on the

Queen Latifah Show

. She’s also made cameo appearances in music videos,

Tonight

by Jessica Sanchez featuring Ne-Yo and

Cravin

by MC Lyte, and competed on the NBC reality competition

America’s Got Talent
