Furman Helps Jan Ozveren Bring Studio-Quality Sound to Live Performances

In his 15-year career as a full-time touring and recording guitarist, Jan Ozveren has played with some of the world’s biggest acts, including Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Charlie Puth and Corinne Bailey Rae. Whether he’s performing one song on a live TV show, accompanying an entire tour, or recording album tracks, Ozveren says there’s one piece of gear that helps him maintain consistent sound from one venue to the next: the Furman P-1800 AR Prestige Voltage Regulator.

“The most important thing I look for, is consistency from venue to venue,” Ozveren said. “I’ve been using Furman power conditioning for at least 10 years, and my ideal setup always includes it. Because power coming from venue wall outlets varies, it can greatly affect the way my guitar reacts and how the amps feel. I want my music to sound the way I expect it to sound, every time I play. That’s why I made it a priority to have the Furman the P-1800 AR in my latest rig for Charlie Puth’s 2018 tour.”

At U.S. venues, and in the U.S. generally, voltages commonly range from about 110 volts to 125 volts, even though 120 volts is the official North American standard. For many appliances this adds long-tern wear and tear, but for musical instruments and equipment, any power fluctuation can be immediately noticeable in the resultant sounds and can cause malfunctions or permanent damage.

Ozveren had to play without power conditioning on a 2017 tour run because of space constraints, and he clearly noticed inconsistencies from venue to venue. The Furman P-1800 AR transforms power from any wall outlet into a clean 120 volts, or as close as possible depending on the original source.

“I think power protection is something I really miss when I don’t have it,” he said. “My gear is a vessel to achieve the sound I have in my head. I like to perfect guitar sounds in terms of width, attack, mid-range and tone, and power conditioning allows me to start with the same clean slate, guaranteeing there are no hums, fuzz or variations in sound resulting from wavering electrical power. With the Furman P-1800 AR, I’m able to create an outside world that matches the controlled environment of my studio.”

The second major benefit of Furman power regulation is the top-notch protection it provides for tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment Ozveren takes on tour! The P-1800 AR features Furman’s exclusive Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) and Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) that protects expensive gear from brownouts and large power fluctuations.

“The whole reason I think about this beforehand is so I don’t have to think about it on stage,” Ozveren added. “Backed by the reliability of Furman power regulation and protection, I can focus on performing the best show possible.”

With nine total outlets, including three that are widely spaced for bulky plugs and one on the front for convenience, a 15 amp rating, isolated banks that minimize inter-component noise contamination, a large, easy-to-see voltmeter and ammeter, a front USB outlet for a USB lamp, and LED indicators that warn when incoming voltage is outside the nominal range, the Furman P-1800 AR covers every base for clean, reliable, protected power during live performances.
