HaiVision Achieves TelePresence Milestone — 4,000 Channels Shipped

MONTREAL — July 23, 2008 —

HaiVision Systems Inc., the world’s leading vendor of true telepresence codecs, announces that it has shipped its 4,000th codec into the telepresence market, representing over 1,000 HaiVision-powered telepresence suites. HaiVision supplies several leading global integrators of telepresence room-based systems with its acclaimed hai1000â„¢ multi-stream codec.

HaiVision’s integrators create full user experience solutions that incorporate ideal combinations of audio/visual components, collaboration innovations, network services, management systems, and the highest performance multi-stream encoder/decoder systems (codecs). HaiVision codecs, such as the new MAKO-HDâ„¢, achieve a level of performance substantially higher than solutions offerings from traditional conferencing vendors.

“This segment is experiencing phenomenal growth. HaiVision’s global channel is now installing between 15 and 20 telepresence rooms per week — a significant run rate,” states Mirko Wicha, HaiVision’s president and CEO. “People simply don’t use traditional conferencing systems very often because of the poor user experience. In contrast, TelePresence solutions optimize the user experience and are in constant use.”

HaiVision’s MAKO-HD has been designed specifically for the challenges of full-HD telepresence. It achieves 1080p resolution, 70 millisecond end-to-end latency, full frame rate performance, and simultaneous WXGA 60Hz support all within the hai1000 multi-channel high density architecture. The hai1000 supports up to 10 codec channels within a compact 3U system. A typical telepresence suite includes a hai1000 system with four codec blades (channels). Traditional conferencing systems usually support only one channel per system, and for HD, usually at 720p with reduced frame rate, and at a significantly higher end-to-end latency.

“HaiVision’s MAKO has set the standard for pure low-latency full HD (1080p) transmission,” said Howard S. Lichtman, president of the Human Productivity Lab, an independent market research firm focused on the telepresence industry. “The HaiVision MAKO-HD’s combination of low-latency, high resolution, and 60 frame-per-second speed provides for superb performance and makes it well-suited for telepresence applications.”

In addition to dominating the telepresence sector, HaiVision’s hai1000 and MAKO-HD technology are cornerstones within top network video deployments in the healthcare, house of worship, broadcast, defense, and IPTV segments.

Plan to see HaiVision and the MAKO-HD at IBC booth IP253, in Amsterdam, Sept. 12-16.
