HaiVision Launches MAKITO™ ― A Compact H.264 Encoder Delivering 1080p60 High Definition Video for $8,995

MONTREAL and CHICAGO — April 15, 2009 —HaiVision Network Video, the world’s leading vendor of high-performance H.264 encoders, codecs, and IP video systems, today announced the immediate availability of the MAKITOâ„¢, a cutting edge, high definition video encoder. The MAKITO is the first and only compact encoder that combines the efficiencies of H.264 video compression, the image quality of full high definition video, a very compact form factor, and a remarkable price. The MAKITO also is fully integrated with Video Furnace System 5, HaiVision’s complete end-to-end HD H.264 IP video distribution solution. The company will unveil and demonstrate MAKITO for the first time at the 2009 NAB Show in Las Vegas next week.

The MAKITO is designed to future-proof network video installations, supporting SD and HD all the way up to 1080p60. Furthermore, the MAKITO has many of the advanced features of the preeminent HaiVision hai1000â„¢ MAKO-HDâ„¢ platform, including the ability to produce multiple stream resolutions from a single source (HiLo Streamingâ„¢), sending high bit rate video to performance endpoints and lower-bandwidth video for mass consumption. With the MAKITO, the user needs only to “encode once,” using its powerful networking features combined with the ubiquity of H.264, to reach all possible viewers.

“The MAKITO enables a new generation of video users who have access to full HD capability over their networks. Only now with the introduction of the MAKITO can high definition be efficiently and affordably distributed, captured, and rebroadcast,” said Mirko Wicha, president and CEO of HaiVision Network Video.

The MAKITO strictly adheres to H.264 industry standards. It is compatible with a wide variety of video-over-IP systems, streaming servers such as Flash and QuickTimeA®, set top boxes, and soft players including HaiVision’s “zero footprint” InStreamâ„¢ desktop player.

The MAKITO is available as a compact appliance or in a mini-blade format. HaiVision’s new 4U rack-mount chassis can hold up to 21 MAKITOs making the MAKITO the ideal platform for high-density HD IPTV head ends.

The MAKITO will launch next week at NAB in Las Vegas, HaiVision booth SL4126.
