Prairie View A&M University Invests in and Monitors Classroom Technology with Hitachi’s OneVision Program

In 2016, Prairie View A&M University began upgrading classrooms and adding technology to allow for professors and students to connect and share information easily. With over 100 classrooms to upgrade, Demitris Cambric, Executive Director for Academic Technology along with Rodney Moore, Executive Director for Information Technology Services decided to use a TecVox solution to help not only connect the technology in each classroom to create an easy user experience, but also to monitor the needs of each piece of technology for upgrades and repairs. With the help of Troxell Communications, Cambric and Moore have fitted the smaller classrooms throughout campus with Hitachi’s projectors using the OneVision program for higher education.

Prairie View A&M University is home to approximately 8,500 students, has three locations and is currently working with other Texas A&M system schools to develop the Rellis Academic; the main campus, the campus for graduate programs and the College of Nursing. Prairie View A&M University is working on outfitting over 100 classrooms with new classroom technology, including Hitachi projectors in the smaller classrooms.

“We started using Hitachi about two years ago when our vendor, Troxell, told us about the OneVision program,” says Cambric. “We immediately saw the benefits and the ease of use in our classrooms with the TexVox solution we had already installed. We can monitor projector use and lamp life through using the solution to make sure we are always prepared and stay ahead of a lamp going out. As we continue to install, we haven’t had to go back to any of the projectors we’ve already installed over the past two years for repair. Everything is working great.”

As a member of the Hitachi OneVision program for higher education, Prairie View A&M University has access to specialized pricing, enhanced service and direct access to Hitachi experts. Buying rewards for program members include extended five-year warranty on projectors, extended one-year warranty on lamps and one free projector when you purchase ten projectors or one free lamp when you purchase three projectors.

Prairie View A&M University has already taken advantage of some of the OneVision perks including registering for the extended warranty, and receiving free product on large purchase orders. “The program gives us the ability to easily access information that we wouldn’t usually have access to. I get regular updates of all of the projectors we have registered, the purchase dates and the warranty. It’s a really great system.”
