Cabletime, developer of the powerful MediaStar range of IPTV and digital media distribution solutions is helping medical practitioners at the Quadram Institute, the unique Norwich-based facility that focuses on the interfaces between food science, gut biology, human health and disease, to access live streams of vital investigative procedures on patients.
Part of the world-class bioscience cluster at Norwich Research Park, the Quadram Institute combines research teams, the University of East Anglia’s Faculty of Science, Norwich Medical School and Norwich University Hospitals’ regional gastrointestinal endoscopy unit in a specialist organisation which has the capacity to conduct at least 40,000 endoscopy procedures every year.
The unique environment, which brings together scientific research and NHS practices, has undergone a major AV infrastructure project under the management of Snelling Business Systems to ensure two-way interaction that allows medical practitioners, researchers and students to benefit from live streaming between endoscopy suites and seminar rooms.
Cabletime is facilitating the distribution of live signals, TV and digital signage over a fibre optic network via MediaStar Digital Media Encoders and IPTV Decoders. These are being used in the seminar rooms, the lecture space, which allows for up to 100 participants, in meeting rooms and also in the public areas. In addition, a MediaStar LAN-caster Gateway has been deployed to provide digital terrestrial TV broadcast over IP.
The MediaStar solutions were specified by Snelling to support a brief for AV systems at the Quadram Institute that could support a new ‘Work and Learn’ approach to collaboration. Snelling is a global supplier of integrated audio-visual systems, environments and communications technology and a valued partner to Cabletime.
