IDSI demonstrates high-resolution Immersive Desktop at I/ITSEC conference

Atlanta, GA (4-10-2012) –

Immersive Display Solutions (IDSI)

recently demonstrated their Immersive Desktop solution at I/ITSEC, the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in Orlando, Florida. Previously shown at the 2011 Defense GameTech Users’ Conference, the Immersive Desktop is the culmination of over three years of detailed research and development. This advanced desktop-sized display system delivers a custom reconfigurable, curved screen display solution, intended for small footprint, single-user, immersive applications. Immersing its end-users in a 160 degree wraparound spherical screen, the desktop solution delivers interactive computer-served content to a single user sitting within a rear projected dome segment. Over 20,000 registrants, including registrants from over 56 countries, registered to attend this year’s I/ITSEC, the world’s largest modeling, simulation and training conference.

IDSI demonstrated their highly regarded Immersive Desktop solution, a high-resolution rear-projected display system with an automated alignment system that relied on three of Digital Projection’s

M-Vision Cine LED projectors

to deliver stunning saturated images to the screen. Software content included a PC version of Battlefield Bad Company 2 as well as Lockheed Martin’s PREPAR3D flight simulator. Featured content also included a Microsoft X-Box gaming console connected thru a video capture card on the PC running Call of Duty Black Ops, as well as a Blu-ray player running HD movie content across the ultra-wide multi-projector display.

The Immersive Desktop consists of a rear-projected free-standing spherical surface providing a 30” radius, a 160-degree horizontal sweep of curvature and a 60-degree vertical sweep of curvature split evenly (+30A°/-30A°) above and below the screen equator. The display can be coupled with up to six projectors offering a range of resolution from 2800 x 1000 (2.8 million pixels, 3.3 arc-minutes per pixel) up to 5000 x 1900 (9.5 million pixels, 1.9 arc-minutes per pixel). Per George Forbes, president and founder of Immersive Display Solutions, the Immersive Desktop “leverages multiple projectors for ultra high resolution, crisp imagery.” The operational footprint of the display varies by the number and layout of projectors and specific customer requirements. Custom configurations with fold mirrors are also available in order to reduce the physical footprint that can be as small as 5’ x 6’.

Regardless of the configuration, the Immersive Desktop is a unique environment that places end-users directly into the center of the action. Augmenting the end-user experience is the overall flexibility of the system, allowing for different projector configurations depending on the resolution and operational footprint required. DP’s M-Vision Cine LED projectors represent an optimal projector choice for the Immersive Desktop due to their unparalleled efficiency, vast color range capabilities and incredibly low lifetime cost of ownership. Bundled software includes a fully-integrated auto calibration solution for the warping and edge-blending of multi-channel content into a single unified ultra-high resolution display.

In regards to bringing the Immersive Desktop to market, Forbes remarked, “After more than three years of research and development regarding screen materials and screen shapes, the Immersive Desktop solution is now available to satisfy the market requirements for a multi-channel rear-projection desktop display with a wide range of configuration flexibility.” Interested parties can view a video demonstration of the Immersive Desktop in action by visiting
