Nashville, TN (October 21, 2015) — ARGOSY Console is pleased to announce the release of a new video, “An Interview with Chad Cromwell,” an in-depth discussion with the legendary drummer, who shares valuable insights into his career path and his artistic approach to music in general. This interview, along with a series of interviews with musicians, artists and producers who are at the heart of today’s music industry, can be seen on ARGOSY’s YouTube Channel.
Cromwell, who has worked with a long list of legendary recording artists including Joe Walsh, Neil Young, Mark Knopfler, Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne, Boz Scaggs, Bonnie Raitt, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Peter Frampton, Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Lady Antebellum and many others, says that drums and experimenting with sounds have always come naturally to him.
“The thing about drums is that is has always been completely natural to do for me, like a duck jumping in a pond,” says Cromwell. “What really influenced me in deepening my path with drums was the evolution of listening to the music, which made me want to experiment more with my approach to the drum set. What makes a certain artist sound the way they do, what are the elements of that sound from a foundational point of view. I just listened and blasted away, until I started getting my head around it.”
In the video, Cromwell tells the story of getting one of his big breaks after hanging out with Joe Walsh one night, who asked him to play a few days later with him at KLOS Shoreline Amphitheatre. “My first gig with Joe Walsh was at this big radio festival in front of 20,000 people; we were supposed to rehearse, but we never did,” he says. “So my first gig with Joe Walsh was cold. And that took me to a whole new place in my career, and people started calling.”
During the interview, Cromwell also explains the importance of performance-based play, which he feels is sorely missing for many young performers today. “When I started, you start the song and play it all the way to the end, and then decide whether or not you have a take,” says Cromwell. “Back then, you had to play the song all the way through. And it is the entire body of it and the way that it all feels that has generated some of our greatest performances, because they literally were performances.”
In his Nashville studio, Cromwell’s room is set up so that the console and the drum kit and the performers who are recording with him are all together in the same room.
