Nipros Helps RED Display The Realties of Live 4K Production At IBC

IBC2014 CONVENTION, AMSTERDAM—

Following a successful collaboration at the NAB Convention in April, RED Digital Cinema has re-enlisted Samaserve’s CTO Sal Sandoval to engage the Nipros LS-750GT and LS 750 camera-mounted fiber adapter system for a live 4K Production demonstration, the first of its kind, at the IBC 2014 Show.

On Saturday, September 13th, a milestone technology demonstration will kick off the IBC Show between 10:00 and 11:30 am. Entitled “One Camera, 6K Digital Stills & Motion, 4K Broadcast?” the unique session is being held during Red Digital Cinema’s presentation at the RAI Auditorium. The goal is to illustrate how Red’s 6K Dragon sensor—boasting over 19 megapixels, a new color science, higher dynamic range and the highest DxO Mark sensor rating ever—can support live (3840 x 2160 resolution) broadcasts. The live 4K broadcasts will include real-time graphics from Vizrt while simultaneously capturing 6K R3D RAW (4096 x 2160 resolution) masters. RED Digital Cinema is located at IBC booth (10.A10 – Hall 10).

The Nipros LS-750GT fiber adapter system will facilitate the transmission of compressed and uncompressed, up to 4K, video from a RED EPIC DRAGON Cinema Camera to the RAI Convention Center’s main auditorium over fiber-optic cable (ensuring high quality signal delivery). The RED EPIC DRAGON will also provide live 4K feeds produced at the Vizrt booth (7.A10 – Hall 7) “Virtual Studio” set throughout the show

“We needed a comprehensive camera system capable of flawlessly transmitting uncompressed 4K and HD signals simultaneously for display on a large, high res screen. The specs on the Nipros System meet all of our requirements, and we are very pleased to be using it as part of our series of IBC demos,” says Jarred Land, President of Red Digital Cinema.

The flagship, Nipros LS-750/GT camera-mounted fiber adapter system, supports virtually any 4K camera. The system acquires and faultlessly passes simultaneous uncompressed 4K and HD signals for distances of up to 1.24 miles with the option of distances beyond 6.2 miles. The LS-750/GT offers users five 3G SDI streams directly out of the camera, as well as one return 3G/HD-SDI/SD-SDI signal. All types of 4K plus HD, or five separate HD streams, can be transported simultaneously, with the ability to mix the five asynchronous 3G/HD/SD streams independently.

“The Nipros System was a primary catalyst for my partners and I forming Samaserve,” Sandoval says. “Earning this level of support at so early a stage in the introduction of an important new system is critical. We are extremely pleased to have earned RED’s trust to support their DRAGON Cinema Camera Demos. The camera agnostic Nipros systems will also be on the job at the Canon Europe Ltd. Booth (11.E50 – Hall 11), and at the Ross Video Ltd. Booths (9.C10, 9.B08, 9.C23 – Hall 9, Hall 0),” Sandoval concludes.
