Scalable Meeting Platform Powers Distance Learning for Over 500 Texas School Districts
OSLO, Norway — Oct. 23, 2014 — Pexip(R), a leading innovator in scalable, distributed video conferencing software, today announced that the company’s Infinity platform has been selected to power the Texas Education Telecommunications Network (TETN). Implemented to support the organization’s expanding distance learning network, the software-based meeting platform enables the TETN to connect a consortium of 20 Education Service Centers, 500 school districts, and the Texas Education Agency.
Connecting all staff and students within the state of Texas is the ultimate goal. This solution adds the capability to provide educators with anytime access to the Texas Education Agency, teacher training opportunities, and parent conferences while making all classes available on a fully virtual basis. Powered by the Pexip Infinity platform, the solution allows educators at the local level to create a virtual meeting space — easily enabling visual collaborations for staff and learning opportunities for students that extend beyond the traditional classroom experience.
“The Pexip Infinity platform was the perfect fit for our virtual meeting room and virtual auditorium requirements, allowing us to connect all students and teachers in Texas without the common barriers of previous technologies,” said Lea Castillo, manager, TETN. “Easy to deploy, easy to set up, and extremely easy to manage and use, the solution provides unmatched interoperability across every system at the TETN — making it incredibly simple for anyone to meet. Using a flexible licensing structure, the software’s cost of operation is also far below the market rate, resulting in an extremely cost-effective tool for public-sector settings such as educational environments.”
Selected as the core software to power the network, Pexip Infinity allows the TETN to maintain autonomy at both the regional and district levels while providing the value of cloud capabilities on-premises across the state through the Education Services Centers. Entirely software-based, the platform provides videoconferencing capabilities using a unique low-cost distributed architecture that can be deployed via VMware, Microsoft(R) Hyper-V(R), and generic hypervisors. Infinity seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Lync(R), WebRTC, and all other standard video and voice protocols and codecs without requiring any custom hardware to create an incredibly versatile value proposition.
“Enabling such a large number of users speaks to the importance of providing scalability, interoperability, and ease-of-use within today’s virtual collaboration applications,” said Simen Teigre, Pexip CEO. “The TETN deployment is a prime example of how our model is helping organizations benefit from the flexibility and value of shifting to IT-driven ecosystems without adding any complexity to existing videoconferencing architectures. As Pexip continues to grow, we will sustain our commitment to providing innovative visual communication capabilities that allow people to simply meet, wherever they go.”
