Choosing Lollapalooza 2008 to play its first North American gig on the second leg of its summer tour, Radiohead plowed its own path through a sell-out crowd of 75,000 to close out the first night, soothing those in attendance with a mixture of pastoral ambience, slashing guitars, and a mystical light show that seemed to keep threatening storms at bay. Thom Yorke’s vocals and guitar helped guide the two-hour set, with the frontman singing into a Beta 87C from Shure.
