Moderated by Noted Journalist Bill Flanagan, This Intimate Interactive Program Will Be Held on January 19 at the New York Chapter Office

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Jan. 15, 2010) — The Recording AcademyA® New York Chapter and the Producers & Engineers WingA® will host an intimate and exclusive event, Up Close & Personal with multi-GRAMMYA®-winning producer Steve Lillywhite, on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Moderated by noted music journalist and Executive Vice President/Editorial Director of MTV Networks Bill Flanagan this intimate program provides music professionals the opportunity to gain insight and hear from this accomplished producer about his career path, and share stories about his ongoing journey through his long career. The evening’s interview is followed by an interactive and candid question-and-answer discussion. The event will take place at The Recording Academy New York Chapter headquarters, located at 11 West 42nd Street, 27th floor, and is FREE for Recording Academy members (non-member tickets are $30 each, or free upon joining The Recording Academy prior to the event).

With a career that spans more than three decades, Steve Lillywhite’s studio career started in 1972 in London. His discography reads like a “Who’s-Who” in the music industry. From his first hit with Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1978, he has produced landmark recordings for Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews Band, Morrissey, Jason Mraz, Phish, Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, U2 and many more. He has won multiple GRAMMY Awards, including Producer Of The Year in 2006. Lillywhite produced Matchbox Twenty’s “How Far We’ve Come,” most recently released 30 Seconds to Mars’ This Is War (Virgin, 2009) and reunited with Phish for their latest project, Joy (JEMP, 2009). In addition to his album producing activities, Lillyshite also hosts and produces The Lillywhite Sessions radio shows, which are broadcast on over 200 NPR stations via The World Café and on the Internet via East Village Radio.

Moderator Bill Flanagan is the Executive Vice President and Editorial Director of MTV Networks, where he created and produces critically acclaimed series such as “VH1 Storytellers” and “CMT Crossroads.” He is also a on-air essayist for CBS News Sunday Morning, the Ombudsman of Sundance Channel’s “Spectacle: Elvis Costello With…” and the author of six books. His new novel, published this month, is Evening’s Empire.
