SAS® Selects Utah Scientific Router and Control to Support Upgrade and Expansion of Corporate Media Facility

SALT LAKE CITY — Sept. 28, 2009 — Utah Scientific today announced that SASA®, the leader in business analytics and one of the largest software companies in the world, has deployed a UTAH-400 digital routing switcher and SC-4 control software to support the HD upgrade and eventual expansion of its extensive in-house video and live production facility. The new UTAH-400 (V-288 frame loaded 128×128), installed this summer, joins two legacy Utah Scientific routers, one of them 20 years old, that are still in service.

“Over the years, our production operations have benefited from reliable and functional routers from Utah Scientific,” said Woody Weaver, SAS engineering and operations manager. “I’ve been here 27 years, long enough to be selective about purchasing decisions. I want to buy from a company that provides reliable equipment and first-rate support. Utah Scientific does both.”

Founded in 1976, SAS today employs more than 11,000 employees in 50 countries around the world. At its more than 400-acre main campus in Cary, N.C., a video production staff of 38 produces commercials as well as promotional, informative, and conference programming. The company’s onsite facilities include two studios, a 400-seat auditorium, and a 50-seat classroom, which are also used by outside organizations, including sponsors of candidates’ forums and debates.

Next year, SAS’s media operation will almost double in size when a new conference facility on the campus is completed. Linked to the base operation by fiber, the new facility will also be tied into the UTAH-400 for signal routing.

“SAS is an organization with an excellent work force doing excellent work,” said Tom Harmon, Utah Scientific president and CEO. “Naturally, the company’s people have high standards for the vendors they count on. We think the SAS media operation’s continuing confidence in signal routing from Utah Scientific testifies both to the quality of our equipment and the quality of our people.”

Utah Scientific’s UTAH-400 family of routers is based on an innovative matrix architecture that reduces system complexity, resulting in a compact device that operates cost-effectively while using power efficiently. Features include a full range of I/O options including 3Gbps, analog, and fiber; redundant power supplies and controller cards; and signal-presence detection.

The company’s SC-4 control system allows a user to control and monitor all the routers on a network, regardless of signal format, and is compatible with current and legacy Utah Scientific routing switchers as well as many third-party systems. Featuring modular design and advanced software, the SC-4 adapts to a variety of applications, from stand-alone to complex.
