SI Globalizes all-new Open Standards for Wired and Wireless Shading

Austin, TX—September 2019—Screen Innovations® (SI®), known for CEDIA advancements such as Black Diamond®ALR screen technology, will show all-new wired and wireless motorized shading solutions at CEDIA Expo 2019.

SI rewires the CEDIA industry with an ultra-high density 8 shade power and control hub called JANUS–a dual-sided product with both UTP and Terminal blocks. JANUS supplies power and control for any wire type, occupying only one half-rack (16 shades per 1 RU.) Traditional structured wiring enclosures support only 10 shades, whereas multiple JANUS units can be paired to support 32 in the same space.

JANUS was designed from scratch for CEDIA dealers to be infinitely expandable and capable of supporting any project from large to small. “We designed a product that combines future and past technologies into one. No matter what wire you pulled in your project, JANUS works,” said Michael Braithwaite, CTO of SI. “We thought it fitting to name our product after the Roman god Janus, giving our dealers precisely what they need today and for the future.”

Cut the cord with SI’s Nano Roller Shades powered by Somfy, the first Zigbee® 3.0 wireless shading technology for CEDIA.

Unlike legacy two-way RF systems, Zigbee®3.0 is a self-healing mesh network protocol, enabling robust and secure communication. Found in global brands such as Philips HUE, Amazon Echo, Samsung Smart Things and now Somfy, Zigbee is an open-source wireless technology that represents one of the first steps toward global standardization.

“We’re excited to see this smart shading system utilizing Zigbee®3.0 technology,” said Tobin Richardson, CEO and President of the Zigbee Alliance. “It’s great to see a leading worldwide brand adopting this mature open standard and creating interoperable smart home experiences.”

In the complete Zigbee®3.0 ecosystem, shade dealers save time with the use of Somfy’s Set & Go app—a programming tool providing intuitive step-by-step programming, and rapid commissioning in under 10 seconds. All shades arrive with preset limits, making installation quick and accurate. Shades can be monitored locally or remotely for troubleshooting, software updates, and battery life notifications.

“Somfy is proud to partner with Screen Innovations. Together, we’re two innovative companies bringing more than products to CEDIA 2019—we’re creating a full ecosystem,” said Alex Keichinger, Connected Solutions Business Development Manager of Somfy North America.

SI also rounds out Nano Roller Shades to include Dual Roll, Side & Sill Channels, Pocket Material, and Flap & Hanger. Visit Booth #3338 at CEDIA 2019 in Denver, Colorado.
