Poland’s historic tourist attraction, the Rzeszów Cellars, has officially reopened after a restoration project lasting from the 70s. Transitioning the underground tourist attraction to a more modern era naturally presented challenges such as lighting, space and acoustics. Fortunately, Ashly Audio was able to provide the Rzeszów Cellars with an improved amplifier system so every guest could experience history brought to life.
The Rzeszów Cellars are a 396-meter-long route located beneath the homes in the Polish town’s central market square. This unique attraction consists of 25 basements and 15 corridors, reaching up to 10 meters deep below ground. Each room contains a different piece of history from relics of medieval wars, signs of fire, remains of iron hinges and even hidden passages.
The Tommex Company worked to integrate a complex sound system for the Rzeszów Cellars. Comprised of many different rooms, the cellars are designed to serve different purposes. Consequently, they required various audio types during installation. In some rooms, music will transport guests back in time. In others, video will help tell the story. Ultimately, the Tommex team specified the Ashly Audio amplifiers to fit the site’s specific needs.
“This level of sound control is necessary for an underground tourist installation such as the Rzeszów Cellars, since sound can easily travel through the venue,” Noel Larson, EVP of sales and marketing at Ashly Audio explained. “The ability to maintain complete control over audio makes a drastic difference in the quality of a guest’s experience.”
The Ashly ne8250 and FA 125.4 amplifiers were pivotal in the Rzeszów Cellars installation, supplying up to four channels of clean, robust amplifier power in a small, compact body that is surprisingly cost-effective. The ne8250 offers extreme ease of use, setup and control using standard 10/100 Ethernet protocol and Protea™ Network Enabled Software making it ideal during installation. The FA Series delivers from 250-500W in 1/2RU and 1,000W in 1RU and is perfect for the tight spaces featured in the Rzeszów Cellars.
“Ashly Audio is thrilled at the chance to assist in the preservation of this unique historical site,” Larson added. “Our technology was the right choice for this installation, as it can seamlessly blend into any space without being architecturally intruding, while at the same time providing the power needed to match the size of the space.”
The signal to the underground cinema loudspeakers was supplied by four Ashly KLR-3200 amplifiers. The KLR Series high-efficiency, high-power amplifiers were the perfect choice for this installation as the KLRs are quiet with signal-to-noise ratio ratings from >108 dB to >110 dB across all models. Each amplifier contains a 3-position gain switch for both channels, a 3-position mode switch (bridged, stereo or parallel mono) and a 3-position 12dB/oct HPF switch (30Hz, 50Hz or off).
“The installation of Ashly Audio amplifiers assures us that Rzeszów Cellars guests will have no trouble hearing any exhibit, announcement or song,” said Tomasz Lulkiewicz, who was responsible for this project at Tommex. “With this newfound audio clarity, guests will continuously enjoy the Rzeszów Cellars with ease, for an unforgettable historic experience.”
